๐Ÿ“๐Ÿซ Berry Season Favorites

Hi, Reader,

It's almost berry season! I don't know about you, but I look forward to this moment all year long.

The little green strawberries on my plants are starting to blush, the bees have been buzzing in the raspberry batch for weeks, and there are blooms all over the blackberry brambles.

Living in western Washington, berry season is a big deal! We can grow pretty much any kind of berry here, including some less common ones. Ever had a thimbleberry? Or a salmonberry? Red huckleberries? What about salal berries?

Between the forests, local berry farms, and our own backyards, we're truly flush with options.

Of course, we're at the tipping point right now. Strawberries trickle in first, but then, the rest seem to show up like a whirlwind!

What's your favorite berry and how do you like to use it? I'd love know!

๐Ÿช๐ŸŽ„ Plan ahead for holiday baking

It may seem way too early to think about holiday baking, but I disagree! If you want to bake with or gift homemade extracts, time is a crucial factor.

This the PERFECT time to make a batch of vanilla extract or cinnamon extract for the coziest cakes, muffins, cookies, and more.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ What we've been eating

Although I mostly share baking recipes and food preservation projects on the blog, we cook from scratch for pretty much every meal.

We often enjoy hearty classics like roast chicken or meatloaf, but we really change it up all the time. These are four of the recipes I've been making on repeat lately:

high protein chili southwestern three bean salad
greek turkey rice skillet whipped cottage cheese dessert

Most require just 1-3 ingredients, so truly anyone can make them. So, you get a little confidence boost, skip the trip to the store,...

Hi, there! I'll keep this brief - strawberry season is HERE, and those juicy little gems deserve pride of place on your dessert table. My recommendation? This Strawberry Snack Cake. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฐ It's buttery and just sweet enough, topped with strawberry whipped cream, then garnished with even more fresh berries. You get layer after layer of strawberry goodness in every bite! It's like strawberry shortcake...in cake form. Get the recipe

Hi, Reader, Do you grow any herbs? I'll be honest - I wasn't that interested in them when I started gardening 11 years ago. I usually focused on basil and cilantro since you need those for pesto and salsa! But over the years, I've added more and more. Parsley, chives, mint, rosemary, oregano, thyme, bee balm, dill, sage, and probably more I'm forgetting. I love watching them grow, I love running my hands through them, and I love preserving them to enjoy all year long! Fortunately, herbs are...
