๐Ÿซ™ Homemade Pantry Staples

Hi, Reader,

Happy (almost) End of August!

I know lots of people are dealing with crazy summer temps out there, but it feels 100% like early fall here in Western Washington. It's starting to get a little chilly and we even had a nice rain this morning!

All of that gets me in that fall mode, and I've been finding myself wanting to organize my pantry to prep for all the cooking and baking I'll be doing soon.

If you're an avid baker, THIS is the time to really stock up on stuff.

Last year, I actually published a post all about fall pantry staples to explain how I shift from summer to fall/winter in the kitchen.

Below, I'm sharing some of my favorite homemade pantry staples either to use in a pinch or instead of storebought items.

The spice mixes are especially worth the effort. They are so much more flavorful than the old cans of pumpkin pie spice at the grocery store!

โ€‹Homemade Vanilla Extractโ€‹

โ€‹Old-Fashioned Pudding Mixesโ€‹

โ€‹Pumpkin Pie Spiceโ€‹

โ€‹Lemon Infused Sugarโ€‹

โ€‹Snickerdoodle Sugar Cubesโ€‹

โ€‹Homemade Chai Spice Mixโ€‹

โ€‹Creamy Whipped Honeyโ€‹

โ€‹Homemade Walnut Butterโ€‹

โ€‹Cardamom Maple Syrupโ€‹

โ€‹Homemade Brown Sugarโ€‹

โ€‹Vanilla Bean Syrupโ€‹

P.S. Not to be a fear-mongerer, but I have heard that their could be supply chain issues this year for some baking supplies.

Last year, my Costco ran out of their Kirkland brand chocolate chips last year and only had Nestle for like $4-5 more per bag. They just brought out their Kirkland brand again (for $11.99 a bag), so I grabbed two.

I'm not going crazy with it and am not saying to stockpile or hoard anything, but if you see something in the store you'll know you need later and can afford to get it now, might be worth it!

Hi, Reader, Okay, so I'm a little bit of a nosey person. I LOVE reading comments on blogs and just seeing what other people say or think. (This can be entertaining sometimes when people substitute 5 things and don't understand why the recipe failed...) But, I especially love seeing comments on my blog and these reviews all made my day. Want to see what they said? Fresh Milled Flour Pancakes "These tasted delicious! The buttermilk was the star of the show. I wasnโ€™t paying attention to the...

Hi, Reader! Happy 4th of July! I'm sure your weekend is packed with festivities, but I wanted to pop in to share a couple of NEW things with you. First, I have a new recipe on the blog! It's been such a hectic year that this is the first recipe I've published in like months... But, it's one I love, love, love. These raspberry crumble bars are the perfect berry-packed, not-too-sweet treat I love this time of year. We gladly eat them on their own, but they're also great with a scoop of ice...

Hi, Reader, After teaching myself to garden over 12 years ago, there is one type of plant I wish I'd planted earlier - fresh herbs. ๐ŸŒฟ I was working at a farmers market at the time, and I was way more interested in vegetables. I wanted heaps of tomatoes, zucchini, onions, and more. If I grew any herbs, it was usually basil or cilantro to use in pesto and salsa. This wasn't a bad idea in any way. I was growing what I knew I would use and enjoy! But here's the thing...herbs can shift how you use...
