Hi, Reader, Happy (almost) Fall! The equinox is on the 22nd this year, and I know Mondays aren't necessarily the most celebratory day. Let's celebrate this weekend. :) The longer I live with the seasons, the more I honor the equinoxes and solstices. Everything else is an in-between, like a spinning wheel with only 4 moments when everything lines up. I see each moment in relation to the seasons that bookend it. The chaotic August crush of produce comes in as the wheel starts tilting closer and closer to fall and all the plants hustle to bear fruit. But right now, we're not spinning. Our feet are firmly planted on the ground at our arrival, the fall equinox. It is a worth a moment of celebration, if you ask me! From this day forward, we will lose about 1-2 minutes of daylight every day until we reach the winter solstice. Personally, I LOVE this time of year and also tend to struggle with it. The reducing daylight makes me tired and my mood tends to tank. But I also soak up every single speck of fall - the crisp mornings, the fog laying heavy on the mountains, watching the leaves blush then tumble to the ground, the first smell of smoke when people light their woodstoves. It really, really helps to prioritize a few things: 1) Time in nature (Get as much real, natural light in your eyes as possible.) 2) Time together (See your people. Get out of the house. Make new memories.) 3) Soaking up the season (Go apple picking, make some jam, clean up the garden) A lot of these can be done outside or together, so you really get a big bang for your buck. I also encourage you to embrace the falling. This is the tail-end of the harvest season. The garden will quickly start to taper off and the fruits and berries are coming to an end. Even the pumpkins are out there ripening right now, getting ready to be plucked from the fields. After that, the plants will show us what to do - just rest. Just be. β‘οΈ Want more like this? Hi, Reader! I have another new recipe to share with you! The first time I shared this one at a gathering, I had someone seriously offer to pay me to make them more. Itβs one of those recipes people freak out about! Homemade pumpkin pie crumble starts with pumpkin pie on the bottom and a buttery, pecan-infused crumble topping that bakes up crisp and crunchy. The textures and flavors are spot on, and you donβt have to fuss with making a crust. Perfect Thanksgiving dessert! My secret is to use...
Hi, Reader! Happy Saturday! It's rainy, dark, and dreary this morning with a windstorm forecasted for this weekend. That means this is a great time to bake something lovely to enjoy *just in case* the ferocious winds knock over a power line. (Happens every year!) Whether the weather is calm where you are or roaring like a lion, feel free to preheat the oven and bake up something extra cozy. Fortunately, I've been publishing lots of recipes for you to choose from! These are all new recipes to...
