๐ŸŒฟ A quick gardening tip (even for total beginners)

Hi, Reader,

After teaching myself to garden over 12 years ago, there is one type of plant I wish I'd planted earlier - fresh herbs. ๐ŸŒฟ

I was working at a farmers market at the time, and I was way more interested in vegetables. I wanted heaps of tomatoes, zucchini, onions, and more.

If I grew any herbs, it was usually basil or cilantro to use in pesto and salsa.

This wasn't a bad idea in any way. I was growing what I knew I would use and enjoy!

But here's the thing...herbs can shift how you use your outdoor space, and they don't require much of a footprint.

They add this whole sensory experience.

All summer long, I find myself running my hands over a bush of lemon balm or sage to feel their soft leaves.

I pick leaves just to smell and enjoy.

I also find myself darting outside more and more simply to grab a sprig of thyme or rosemary for this or that.

All of these little moments help you spend more time in your garden actually enjoying it, not just working.

It also makes nature part of your actual, day-to-day life.

Plus, growing herbs I didn't already know and love helped expand my palate. I now use my homegrown dried dill in everything - soups, dips, dressings, salads, and more.

Fortunately, herbs are also easy to preserve. You can dry them, make pesto, infuse them in butter, make herb salts, and so much more.

If you have even the tiniest space to grow plants - a kitchen windowsill, back porch, or small garden - consider planting some herbs this year. Any type will do. Just give yourself permission to play a bit!

Hi, Reader, Happy Saturday! How has your week been? I'm exhaling a massive sigh of relief. If you've been following me for a while, you know I do vintage shows and sell antiques at two antique malls. Last week, I did my first show at The Great Junk Hunt. SO MUCH WORK. We've never refinished so much furniture and we truly pushed the limits of our abilities (maybe a little too far). The show went really well, though, and I met lots of great customers and vendors! But this week has all been...

Hi, Reader, If you ever need a dessert quickly, blondies and brownies are my go-to. One bowl, throw it together, then bake! They're great warm on their own, with ice cream for special occasions, or even just standing over the kitchen sink for a quick snack. P.S. All of my blondies recipes are formulated for 8x8 square metal pans, BUT you can double them to make enough for a 9x13 metal pan. This is really handy if you're making a bunch for a party or something!PRO TIP: If the batter is a...

Hi, Reader, Are you trying to be more hands-on in your kitchen? Sometimes we call it self-sufficiency, which it is in a way. Sometimes we call it being frugal, which it can be (not always). But for me, I always see it as a chance for creative expression. I really think that's one of the things that separates me from other bloggers and content creators. I'm not all about the cheapest of everything ever (for better or worse), and I still layer in and practice many, many old-fashioned skills....
