Hi, Reader, Happy Saturday! How has your week been? I'm exhaling a massive sigh of relief. If you've been following me for a while, you know I do vintage shows and sell antiques at two antique malls. Last week, I did my first show at The Great Junk Hunt. SO MUCH WORK. We've never refinished so much furniture and we truly pushed the limits of our abilities (maybe a little too far). The show went really well, though, and I met lots of great customers and vendors! But this week has all been about recovery. Lots of time at home, with no deadlines, and as many naps as I could handle. I'm finally starting to feel like a human again and being home this weekend - without 20 projects on my list - feels like a massive gift! We're going to work on the garden, clean the sides of the house, and stain our back porch to make it an oasis for us this summer. It's one of those classic Spring cleaning kinds of days for us when you just want to stay home and pour energy into making your home feel extra cozy and inviting. Are you feeling that energy too? ๐ฟ Seasonal Baking Recipes If you want to really slow down and savor something tasty this weekend, go ahead and preheat the oven. I've been working on creating a post for each season with my favorite recipes to make during that window of time, and have finally published them all! I'm treating these as living lists that I update as I create new content, so they're long-standing resources you can come back to again and again. Just click to see the lists! โฌ๏ธ ๐ธ Mother's Day TreatsAnd consider this your one-week warning to prepare for Mother's Day! We often like to give plants (rose bushes, lilacs, ornamental trees) and spend time together with the special women in our lives. A few treats never hurt either! โFresh Strawberry Snack Cakeโ โLemon White Chocolate Sconesโ โDouble Chocolate Cookie Barsโ โRaspberry White Chocolate Blondiesโ โStrawberry White Chocolate Muffinsโ โDark Chocolate Covered Pecansโ โStrawberry Lemon Blondies with White Chocolateโ โVanilla Muffins with Crumb Toppingโ โWhite Chocolate Matcha Sconesโ ๐ Coming Up in May It's hard to believe it, but it's already time for me to start working on the Summer issue of The Handmade Year. I'm thinking up lots of fun recipes and projects to highlight in the next issue, which will come out in June. Do you have any specific seasonal ingredients you want me to work with or projects to feature? I'm also working on several more Spring bakes to publish ASAP, including the most delicious strawberry cobbler and a strawberry rhubarb crisp! Now that the show is done, I'm hoping to have time to work on those soon to publish next week. I sincerely hope you're doing well wherever you are and finding something in your life that brings you joy. Get outside, listen to the birds, and look for the flowers. You deserve peace, love, joy, and connection, and I hope you find it! - Rachael |

Hi, Reader, After teaching myself to garden over 12 years ago, there is one type of plant I wish I'd planted earlier - fresh herbs. ๐ฟ I was working at a farmers market at the time, and I was way more interested in vegetables. I wanted heaps of tomatoes, zucchini, onions, and more. If I grew any herbs, it was usually basil or cilantro to use in pesto and salsa. This wasn't a bad idea in any way. I was growing what I knew I would use and enjoy! But here's the thing...herbs can shift how you use...
Hi, Reader, If you ever need a dessert quickly, blondies and brownies are my go-to. One bowl, throw it together, then bake! They're great warm on their own, with ice cream for special occasions, or even just standing over the kitchen sink for a quick snack. P.S. All of my blondies recipes are formulated for 8x8 square metal pans, BUT you can double them to make enough for a 9x13 metal pan. This is really handy if you're making a bunch for a party or something!PRO TIP: If the batter is a...
Hi, Reader, Are you trying to be more hands-on in your kitchen? Sometimes we call it self-sufficiency, which it is in a way. Sometimes we call it being frugal, which it can be (not always). But for me, I always see it as a chance for creative expression. I really think that's one of the things that separates me from other bloggers and content creators. I'm not all about the cheapest of everything ever (for better or worse), and I still layer in and practice many, many old-fashioned skills....
