Hello Reader, Have you ever made your own homemade extracts? If not, you really should! They are so easy to make and once you get started, you start to imagine infinite possibilities. Extracts are actually one of the first kitchen projects I made when I really started getting interested in making pantry staples, baking with sourdough, culturing, and fermenting. They were one of the easiest, too! Plus since they take a while to infuse, it's best to start your extracts early, especially if you want them for holiday baking. Want to know more? Click to open my brand new FREE Vanilla Extract Cheat Sheet to help beginners know exactly how to get started. I'm also hosting a FREE virtual workshop on making vanilla extract in my Facebook group on Saturday, April 26th! These are two great ways to learn more about the world of extracts and I hope you can make it to the class!
My Favorite Homemade ExtractsHomemade Bourbon Vanilla ExtractThis is hands-down my favorite extract and the one I make the most! Cardamom ExtractThis extract takes just 3 days to infuse and has the most deliciously aromatic flavor. It makes a great swap for vanilla extract as you're waiting for it to infuse! Easy Coffee ExtractGreat for adding depth of flavor to brownies, chocolate cakes, and more. Lavender ExtractA little goes a long way with this one! It's my favorite way to add lavender flavor to muffins, cupcakes, cookies, and more. Homemade Orange ExtractCitrus extracts are one of my all-time favorites and they add lightness to countless recipes. They couldn't be easier to make, either! Homemade Strawberry ExtractYes, you can make extracts with fruit, too! Use dried strawberries for a rich, berry flavor. Berry extracts generally aren't strong enough to add a major boost of flavor on their own and work best when paired with fresh fruits, as well! How to Make Lemon ExtractOne of my essentials! I use this one in all my lemon blondies, scones, muffins, and cakes. How to Make Blueberry ExtractI often like to make blueberry buckles, muffins, and scones, and this extract helps tip that berry flavor over the edge. Homemade Cinnamon ExtractIf you're into cozy flavors, this is one for you! It adds an extra warmth to pumpkin pies, puddings, and cookies. How to Make Mint ExtractI almost always pair mint with chocolate and love having mint extract on hand for special treats. You can use any type of mint as well - peppermint, spearmint, and beyond. ✨ Get the ebookWant even more extract goodness in your life? Grab a copy of my ebook DIY Extracts! Hi, Reader, How's it going? My mom and I spent last weekend in Washington's tulip country. I just needed a break and knew that staying in an old farmhouse would do the trick. Little did we know...that we would be about 2 miles from the biggest tulip farms in the area, 4 miles from the most wonderful little town filled with antique shops and thoughtful small businesses, and surrounded by beautiful sights. It was such a special experience and honestly, I'm sad it's over! I could gladly go back...
Hey, Reader, Happy Spring! What does it look like in your neck of the woods? We just got back from a drizzly stroll in the woods here and I know some of my readers are still dealing with snow. The first of my new patch of daffodils just opened the other day - right on time for the equinox. I check it every morning to see how it's doing and can't wait to see the season unfold! I've also been baking up a storm! The spring flavors are so exciting, and it feels nice to have a plate of freshly...
Hey, there! Are you seeing signs of spring in your neck of the woods? It felt like winter was never going to end, and then one day, I noticed I could hear the frogs croaking while I was throwing the ball for my dog at the park. Then I realized the birds were going wild, chirping and singing in the woods. And then I started to notice flowers emerging. Last fall, we had to tear out two dead bushes from our front yard, and planted dozens of daffodils and tulips. The flower bulbs have started to...
